KING OF THE FOREST
by J.E. Rogers

This past weekend, I had the honor of signing books at the Birds of Prey event in Brewster, New York, at the Green Chimneys school. I was pleased to sell and autograph books for the many readers that stopped by to talk to me. However, I was super thrilled to meet the birds and speak with their handlers.

One of the most largest birds at the event was the African Crowned Eagle, pictured below. It is a stunning, glorious, and majestic animal.

The Crowned Eagle is found in sub-Saharan Africa. They are one of Africa’s largest bird with a length of approximately thirty-five inches. The largest African eagle is the Martial Eagle. They dine mostly on small mammals such as duikers, rock hyrax or monkeys. It has massive feet and talons which are used to crush its prey either at the neck or head.

The African Crowned Eagle is considered endangered, and steps are being taken, and research is underway in an effort to understand them and therefore ensure their survival.

The following video is a little bit longer than usual (8:35), but I felt it was so good that you would enjoy the information and you will also get a glimpse of the marvelous bird in its natural environment.

Don’t forget to stop by again, and share this post with others.

Enjoy!
